At several other points in Montgomery County, efforts are being made to secure lots on which to build School Houses- but not far enough advanced to claim our present attention.
In Floyd County, nothing has been done, since the closing up of our School at Jacksonville last winter. I even purchased for them at Lot, and presented their school Board with the need, but no steps have been taken towards building a School House. They expected to go right to work; but have never started in the matter. The teacher was also opposed to them, with the only cost of hauling it to the mill. Having done all in my power to house them to action, I propose nothing for them until they decide to move to more forward in the work themselves
At Salem, Roanoke County, the School recently taught by Miss Rachel S Dennis, will re-open on Thursday next, in charge of Louisa H Allen "Cold" commissioned by the same society - "Friends Freedmen Asso. of Philad Pa. Sixty scholars have already been enrolled, and it is anticipated that quite a number more will ask admission into the school. the house belongs to the Freedmen, but as they are still very much in debt, they make a  special request, that they be allowed ten or fifteen dollars per month rent. The following estimate has been presented for placing the House in proper order for winter, viz.
