Eighty percent. In the large graded school in Richmond, Known as the "Navy Hill School" with six teachers and 400 pupils, the attendance has been 90 percent of the enrolment, and in the Normal school at the same place with two teachers and 80 pupils, the attendance for the year has reached 95 percent.
Such results are attained only where there is a true professional zeal on the part of the teachers and a corresponding lively interest on the part of pupils, and parents.
These indications of success have been fully sustained by a personal inspection of many of the schools at different periods during the year in all parts of this state and particularly, by the final examinations during the month of June.
Nearly all the schools in Richmond have been of unusual excellence. The best teachers of former years were retained by the various associations, while the less successful were replaced by those of better skill or greater devotion.
