duty - but to make it possible for the numerous important demands for personal visitation to be met in time. If I had no office work whatever I could not meet all these demands so as to secure economy in the expedition of the funds, the proper oversight of the teachers and the best efficiency of the schools. 
Mr. Jones has never been a solider, as he is a member of the "Society of Friends," but he has complete fitness for the service required an energetic, hard-working, plain, honest man, of larger experience in school matters, acquainted with building operations, a very forcible speaker to the freedpeople. 
His addresses in behalf of education, temperance, economy, and Sunday schools are pungent and inspiring. Such oversight and such addresses are needed everywhere in the State.
