Church members, leaders in the Baptist Church here. These tools are made to point to the little post office desk where the half dozen letters and papers are kept, and call it "desecration of the House of God" - "to carry on United States business in it". 

The clothing which we dispense to get food to eat, and at the same time make them and our scholars comfortable and decent they call sneeringly "turning" their "Church into a Store."
In this they have lately found a strong ally - The Baptist Home Mission Society's Agent, Mr. Leonard of Washington.
Since October he has made repeated visits here, held meetings &c, but never once looked in at the School and last evening (Friday) appointed and held a meeting, although it has always been our stated evening for Night School, as Monday is also.
To-day a resolution was passed by the church that it might appoint a meeting and hold it on any night it chose in the week, in utter disregard of our established Night School always kept on Monday & Friday evenings. I am sadly worried
