War Department, 
Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands, 
Washington, April 16th, 1870.

By direction of the Secretary of War, S. A. Jones is hereby appointed Asst. Supt. of Education in the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands, State of Virginia [[strikethrough]] at a salary of [[/strikethrough]] to be paid at the rate of one hundred dollars per month for [[strikethrough]] per [[/strikethrough]]the number of days actually employed.

This appointment is made under the provisions of "An Act to continue in force and amend an Act to establish a Bureau for the relief of Freedmen and Refugees, and for other purposes." It will take effect April 16 1870 and remain in force until revoked by orders from this Office. 

The oath required by law will be taken, and filed in the office of the Commissioner.
