Dear Mother,

Well, we had a very pleasant week end in Switzerland. The people we visited put us up two nights, fed us, & with what we saved (& a little more) we got me a waterproof, sturdy watch for under $20. My other had been repaired [[strikethrough]] once [[/strikethrough]] twice this summer & still didn't run all day, so I thought I'd better get one intrinsically less delicate. We wanted to go to see mountains but the weather was so rainy that we visited Bern instead. Coming & going we stopped in Basel. We saw the art museums in both.

Our friends find the cost of living relatively high & their salaries relatively low, so they are not living as well as we; they also have a 2-month-old baby to keep them at home. We've really been running a lot compared to them; they haven't been out of Switzerland since they arrived in March!

As for your visiting us, when did you have it in mind to come? We do want to run over to Paris again, & perhaps could bring you from there. If this does not
