Dear Mrs. Blake:

Since we didn't reach you on the telephone last night, I am writing this to be sure that you, the more pessimistic member of the family, know that we are more that willing to come up to Boston and chauffeur you down to Washington. Whether this is the best thing to do or not depends on how you and Sidney feel and what the doctors have to say, but if you decide that you need me, telephone or telegraph and I will head for Boston. Airplane reservations may be hard to get right now, this being the labor day week end, but they train gets there overnight so I can certainly be there the morning after we receive word.
It might be best for me to go up without Doris, since the trip is expensive. I don't think our cash on hand would cover two tickets. 
The telephone call was delayed by some kind of trouble with the telephone at the hospital. We
