Dear folks,

Jack is tootling on a little bamboo flute (25ยข) which is our one souvenir of the International Trade Fair in Chicago. We went there on our way from Evanston to Champaign, using Jim and Shirley's free press tickets. It wasn't too impressive; [[strikethrough]] but [[/strikethrough]] the Japanese room was one of the most interesting. They have some very fine transistor factories and also other good machined things. Their cars [[strikethrough]] are not [[/strikethrough]] don't seem different on first glance from the European types. There was an outdoor show on an attached "island" which was the best part of the [[strikethrough]] program [[/strikethrough]] day. Haiti, Italy, Spain, China and Ceylon furnished dancing, singing. Behind the island a sailboat race was taking place, a water skier with "wings" flew into the water, excursion boats rushed back and forth: a 3-ring circus.

As for the vacation. We note that school opens [[strikethrough]] be at [[/strikethrough]] on September 21 (instruction), so we can take our vacation in September. As for when and how long, this depends entirely on Jack's work--he will have to get a lot done before, arrange for work in his absence, etc.
