This Indenture made and entered into on the 29th day of December 1865, between Joseph H. Cutchins and the undersigned Freedmen and Freedwomen. Witnesses. That the said Joseph H. has hired the undersigned as Labour on his farm, for 12 months, Commencing on the 1st first day of January 1867 on the following terms to wit.
The said Joseph H agrees to furnish quarters and the meal rations, and to pay them the amount opposite their names, respectively, and to give them the half of every Saturday as holiday - He agrees that he will pay them not more than half of the amount that may be due them at any time, reserving the other half till the expiration of the terms of the Contract.
And the undersigned agree that they will perform all kinds of labor on the farm of the said Joseph H. that may be required of them that is usual to be done on the farms of said County, and the amount of such labor as is usual to be performed by hands of their several capacities, and that they will render a cheerful obedience to the orders of the said Joseph H. or his Agent, that they will be respectful in their deportment, that they will pay proper attention to the feeding of stock and other necessary work on holidays and Sundays, and they will not at any time stop work or leave the business of the farm without the consent of the said Joseph H. And they further agree that they will not demand more than one half of their wages, until the expiration of the term of the contract, and that in case of the violation of this contract in any particular, they will forfeit the wages that may be due, at the time of such violation. And they furthermore agreed that parents who have children hired shall either enforce a strict obedience on the part of the children to the said Joseph H: and
