Contract for Labor
This Indenture made and entered into between JE Baritt of the county of Nash State of North Carolina of the first part and Caroline Drake for herself and two children of the Second part. Witnesseth that the said Caroline and children have agreed to work for the said JE Barrett from this date until December 31st 1866 Inclusive to do all kinds of labor common to the farms of the Country  to work ten hours per day, to do there work faithfully and to be respectful in there Deportment And they further agree the one half of the monthly pay shall be retained by the said JE Barrett untill the End of the year and that the Amount so retained shall be forfeited by a violation of this Contract, And she further agrees for herself and Children that time lost by illness or Absence without Leave shall not be paid for.  And the Said JE Barrett has Agreed that he will furnish the said Caroline Drake and Children with Comfortable quarters Sufficent rations and the Amount of money which Stands Ppposite there respective names.
