Contract for Labor

This indenture made and entered into on the first day of January, 1866 between Joshua K. Bulluck of the county of Edgcomb and the state of North Carolina of the first part and the undersigned freed laborers of the second part. 

Witnesseth that the said laborers have agreed to work for the said Joshua K. Bulluck from this date to the last day of December 1866, to do all kinds of labor common to the farms of the county to work from sun up to sun set to do their work faithfully and to be respectful in their deportment. And he further agreed that one-half of [[strikethrough]] his [[/strikethrough]] their monthly pay shall be retained by the said Joshua Bulluck till the end of each year and that the amount so retained shall be forfeited by [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] a violation of this contract. And he further agrees that the time lost by idleness of absence without leave shall not be paid for.
The said Joshua K. Bulluck has agreed to furnish the said laborers with comfortable quarters sufficient reshions and the amount of money per month which stands opposite their respective names.
