This Indenture made & Entered into this 1st day of January 1866 between E.L. Moore of the County Edgecombe & State of North Carolina of the one part & the undersigned Freedmen & women of the second part that the parties of the second part have agreed to become Colonies in the form of E.L. Moore from the present time till the first of January 1817 they agree to do all kinds of farm work common to the farmer of the county. To obey all the regulations proper for the government of the farm. To render the amount of labor faithfully that is usual for their capacity. That they shall be ready for work at day-light & quit work till dusk. That said laborers shall have as breakfast one hour & thirty minutes time, which shall be determined by the blowing of a horn. They are to remain until the expiration of the year or contract. And they further agree that one half of the amount due as wages shall be unclaimed till the end of the year; & if the contract shall be violated That the amount due as wages at the time of such violation shall be violated. A referral to perform the proper amount of labour which in case of sickness shall be considered a violation of the contract & the amount of labour lost shall not be paid for. 
And the party of the first part open in compensation for such labour that he will furnish said labourer comfortable quarters & plentiful rations & the amount of money set opposite their names. And the party of the Second part agree to observe a respectful deportment to the party of the 1st part & his agents & do their work cheerfully & faithfully.
