Edgecombe County January 1st 1866
Three articles of agreement between Dempsey Tresatare and Lewis Trevathan  Witinsseth: that the said Lewis him his services to the said Dempsey for the year ending The 1st January 1867, and agrees that he will work diligently and faithfully for the said Dempsey. He further agrees that all lost time shall be deducted & that when it amounts to a day or more, he will deduct or pay for his rations during such loss.
In consideration of the services thus rendered the said Dempsey agrees to pay to the said Lewis Twelve and a half Dollars for month and to furnish him with four pounds Bacon and one milk meal per week. It is hereby further agreed by the said Lewis that the said Dempsey shall keep back one months wages until the end of the year to insure his fulfilment of this contract.
