Contract for Labor
This Indenture made and entered into on the 1st day of January 1866 between WC Tayler of the State of North Carolina of the first port And Washington Taylor this daughter Hellen freed Laborers of the second port Witnesseth that the said Laborers agrees to work for the said Taylor from this date to the 1st day of January 1864 to do all kinds of work common to farming making during the year 1866 the said Laborers is to work faithfully and to be respectful and orderly in deportment, And the said Laborers further agrees that half of their monthly pay shall be retain by the said Taylor till the end of this contract and that the amount in retain shall be forfeited by a violation of the same And the said Laborers further agrees that all time lost by sickeep idleness or for absence without leave shall not be paid for And the said Taylor agrees to pay the said Laborers for their services the sum of one hundred & eighty Dollars $180 if the one half detain as afore said until the expectation of this contract and witness here of the parties of afore & ain have set their hands and seals date afore said
