Edgecombe County January 1st 1866

These articles of Agreement between Dempsey Trevathan and Willis Gray, Witnesseth; that the said Willis hires himself & his son Gus Dancy to the said Dempsey Trevathan for the present year and agree that they shall both labor faithfully and diligently for the S'd Dempsey until the 1st Jany 1867. I further agree that all lost time shall be deducted and that when it amounts to a day or more he will deduct or pay for rations during such loss.

In consideration of the service thus rendered The said Dempsey agrees to pay to the said Willis| Eight dollars per month and four pounds of bacon , & one peck meal for his own & Seven dollars per month & three pounds Bacon and one peck meal for his son Gus's labor.
