State of North Carolina Edgecombe County This indenture made and entering into on this 1st day of Jany 1866 between M J & G C Battle of the first part & the undersigned laborer of the second part - Witnesseth that the said laborers agreed to work for the said M J & G C Battle from the 1st day of Jany 1866 to the 1st day of Jany 1867 to commence work soon after light in the morning & to quit at dark at night with a sufficient interval at noon to eat their dinner.
