Con Tract for Labour

This indenture made and entered into this 1st Day Janry (AD) 1866 between Thos S. Maner of the County of Edgecombe state Northcarolina of the first part and the undersign for labours of the second part. Witnesseth that the Said labours have agreed to work for the Said Maner from this date to the first Jany 1867 to do all kind labour common to the farms of the County to common work usually early and work usually late to do their work truthfully and to be respectfull in their deporture and they further agree that one half of their monthly pay shal be retained by the Said Maner til the end of each year and that the amount so retained Shal be forfeited by Violation of this Contract and they further agree that time lost by idling, sickness, or [[?]] with out leaf shal not be paid for and the Said Maner has agreed that he will furnish the Said labours with Comfortable quarters sufficient rations and the amount mony per month wich stands oposite their names that he will treat them kindly and in [[?]] the establish school for their children
