Contract for Labor-
This indenture made and entered into this 1st day of January 1866 between BB Barion of this County of Edgewater state of NC of the 1st part and the undersigned Freed man & woman of the 2nd part herewith that the parties of the 2nd part have agreed to be comm laborers on the farm of B B Barion from the present time to the 1st day of January 1867 they do agree to do all kinds of farm work Command  to the farm of the county to obey all the regulations necessary for the proper government of the farm, to render the amount of labor faithfully that is usual for their capacity to remain til the expiration of the contract And they further agree that one half of the amount  due as arranged shall be retained till the end of their year & if the contract is violated that the amount due as arranged at the time of such violation shall be forfeited, & refused to perform  the proper amount of labor except in case of such it shall be considered a violation of this contract, and the amount of labor lost shall not be paid for. And the party of the 1st part agrees in compensation for such labor to furnish the men four pounds of Pork & 1 peck of meal, the women two & a half pounds of pork & 1 peck meal per week & the Children over 9 years old that work in the field Pork & meal in proper ratio as compliant with adults, and the amount of money per month sch off with their names & the parties of the 2nd part agree to observe a respectful department to the party of the 1st part and his agent, & to do their work Cheerfully & faithfully and the party of the first agrees to treat the parties of the second part kindly-
