Contract entered into between Richard Battle + Luke Daughtry (Freedman).
Richard Battle is to employ said Luke Daughtry as a farm laborer on a farm to be superintended by himself for the year ending 1st Jan 1867, and is to pay Luke Daughtry, as a compensation for services, the sum of eight dollars per month, one fourth to be paid at the end of four months, the ballance at the end of the year 1866 - All this to be done on these conditions to wit - 
All lost time to be deducted from stipulated wages and no time to be lost (except from sickness) unless with consent of said Richard Battle.  
Said Luke Daughtry to obey strictly all orders eminating from Rich'd Battle relative to farm work, and always to observe a respectful demeanor towards the same. 
Richard Battle to be kind to the employed and not to demand of said Luke Daughtry more than ten hours work in Winter & thirteen in in Summer per day, that being the standard.
Board to be charged for all lost time whether from sickness or whatever cause & to be deducted from wages of Luke Daughtry. 
Done the first day of Jan 1866 near Rocky Net.
