State of NC Edgecombe Co
January 1st 1866

The following is a bargain and obligation. This day intered into between A D Braswell of the first part and Wm. Mercer and wife July Thomas Homs Hilliard Mercer and wife Lucy and Pleasant Mercer Freed people all of the second post and of the county and Hale aforesaid. A.L. Braswell the party of the first part agrees and Binds herself to furnish land. The farm wherein she now lives to the parties of the second part to work and farm upon for the year 1866. The party of the first part is to furnish three horses two oxens and feed for them she is to furnish farming utensils and the said parties of the second part does agree and does hereby bind themselves to plant and cultivate well not less than twenty acres of land in Cotton and not less than fifty acres in Corn in fact they are to cultivate all tendable land on the farm in Cotton Corn Peas Potatoes and except where there is wheat and oats and of all the Cotton Corn Peas fodder that is housed of the crop of 1866 is to be equally divided between the party of the first part and the parties of the second part. All the small grain they the partys of the second part are to help house but are not to have any Part of. The Party of the first part agrees to sell to the parties of the second part provisions and during said year 1866 and it is agreed upon between the parties that for all the parties of the second part may be owing to the party of the first Part for provisions &c purchased that all these part of the crop is to belong
