This Indenture made & entered into this 21st day of January 1866 between C.C. Bonner of the County of Edgecombe & State of North Carolina of the one part & Thomas Fox for himself & his wife Marly Fox of the second part. Witnesseth, That the said C.C. Bonner of the first part bargains & agrees to pay the said parties of the second part, to employ them for the year 1866, he said Bonner agrees to pay them for said service the sum of one hundred & seventy five dollars in currency. 
The parties of the second part agree to perform all the duties that may be reasonably required by said Bonner, to be obedient & prompt in their performance, to be in their places when required, never to leave the positions assigned to them without permission, neither in in the week & on Sunday & to account in the Valuation, Equal at least to their daily pay for any loss of time whether by sickness, or by absence (Voluntarily)
