This Indenture made and Entered into this 3rd February 1866 between John Ward of the County of Nash and State aforesaid of the one part and Solomon Ward for himself his wife Harriet and his [[strikethrough]] four [[/strikethrough]] three minor children and Joseph Whitaker for himself his wife Cherry and child of the same County and State of the Second part 
Witnesseth that the parties of the second part agree to work upon the plantation of said Ward and to do all the work upon well regulated plantation, to be respectful in their deportment and submissive to the regulations usual upon such plantation. Not to leave the plantation without permission.  In case of sickness or refusal to labour and obey the reasonable command of said Ward or his agents for such sickness a reasonable amount shall be deducted from their wages.
The party of the first agrees to furnish said laborers with comfortable quarters and rations, four pounds of pork for the men three and a half pounds for the women, and a peck of meal for each and to pay to Solomon for the year 1866 for himself his wife and family Eighteen dollars and seventy five cents per month (18.75) for Joe Whitaker his and child fourteen dollars and fifty eight cents ($14.58) per month One half of which amounts is to be paid to said parties of the second part as the expiration of every month of called for, the balance on the 1st day Any 1867. A failure on the parties of the second to perform the stipulation herewith made will be considered a violation and the party of the first will retain for his own use the wages due at the time of such violation. In testimony whereof all partied hereunto affix their hand and seals this day and year above written
