Contract of Labor
This indenture made and Entered into on the 1st Day of March A.D. 1866 between Kinchan Taylor of the County of Nash and State of North Carolina of the 1st part and Penny Taylor a freedwoman of Second part. Witnesseth that the Said Laborer have agreed to work for the said Kinchan Taylor from this 1st day of March 1866 until the 31 day of August 1866, to do all kinds of labor common to the farms of the Country to work from Sunrise until Sun Set, or from Light to Light, to do [[strikethrough]] their [[/strikethrough]] her work faithfully, to be respectful in her deportment and She further Agrees that one half of her monthly pay shall be retained by the Said Kinchan Taylor till the end of this Contract (August 31 1866) and that the Amount so retained shall be forfeited by a violation of this Contract. And they further Agree that time lost by idleness or absence without leave shall not be paid for. And the Said Kinchan Taylor has agreed that he will furnish the Said Laborer with comfortable quarters, sufficient rations, and the amount of money which stands oppisite [[opposite]] [[strikethrough]] their [[/strikethrough]] her respective name and treat her kindly
