IX  Destitutes

My district, embracing much of the richest portion of the State, contains but comparatively little destitution, and I have previously recommended, that Government supplies be no longer furnished

The various County Commissioners make some provisions for the poor of their respective Counties, and although their treasuries are in a destitute condition, I think if they were directed to do so, they would make the same provisions for poor blacks as for poor Whites

The amount of Corn & Bacon received and issued to Destitutes, both White & Black from Jan 1, 67, up to May 31, 67, was

6513 # Bacon
2924 Bushels of Corn.
