Colonel
In compliance with instructions from your office, I have the honor to forward the following "General Report" of the operations of the Bureau in this Sub District during the month of September 1864.

Since my last report, there have been several cases of assault and battery reported to this office, all of which have recieved the proper attention of the civil authorities; all those cases have been of a light nature, except one, where three white men and three freedmen, living in Green Co. concealed themselves, for the purpose of detecting who would come after the carcass of a cow which had been killed that day and hidden in the woods; at night - two freedmen came after the carcass and while in the act of raising it up where fired into by the concealed party! the shot took effect in the breast of one of the freedmen, who has since died, the other made his escape: I caused the arrest of the whole party and had them confined in jail
