I herewith have the honor to submit my monthly report.

No material change has taken place in the condition of this district since my last monthly report. Mr Stebzig the agent at Livingston Sumter Co. has proved to be a very efficient & judicious officer. his prompt action in the case of the arrest of Preyton the murderer of Jerry Clark (colored) I have had occasion to commend. Sumter is at present the least disturbed county in this District, but is suffering like all the other counties for the want of a Sheriff.

Mr J.A. Yordy, Agent at Eutaw, Green Co. has just returned to his post after a long leave of absence. During his absence I had occasion to visit Eutaw & I made personal observations relative to the condition of affairs in that disturbed neiborhood. The difficulty there is not altogether political. The [[strikethrough]] insolvency & [[/strikethrough]] financial embarrassments of the planter-princes in the neighborhood are a principal cause.
