Concerning the school Building about to be erected at this place: it seems of great importance that operations may be allowed to commence at once on the same in order that the house may be in readiness as soon as possible for the next school year, which is just to commence.

Public Lands.
The freed people of this Sub. Dist. appear to have an ever increasing desire to locate on the public lands, and numerous applications are being made at this office for information & guidance concerning the same. Such assistance is all the more heartily given from a feeling that the freedmen in this setting up for themselves, are doing wisely, and for the best : inasmuch as by thus learning to help themselves, they are best educating themselves.

Feeling between the Races.
The majority of the white population seem to exercise a friendly feeling toward the freedpeople: the same being often very marked and in many instances exhibited in an unwonted degree. How far this feeling is true and genuine and how much prompted
