Supt. of Education with the help of successful immediate action thereupon. 
Operations upon the freedmens School building to be erected at Eufaula have been commenced. And iu is expected that the house will be completed by Christmas.

Condition of the Freedpeople.
The condition of the freedpeople in many parts of this Sub. Dist. seems quite deplorable. This is in a measure owing to this exceeding amount of sickness, and mortality which have prevailed here among the freedpeople during the present month & and which still continues unabated. This is especially the case in and about Eufaula. The sad case of the sufferers was duly reported at Hd. Qrs. and an application for relief made in their behalf. but unfortunately there was no provision therefor. Therefore an appeal was made to the City authorities, and some assistance was granted in the case of the poorest poor.  The present poor condition of the freedpeople is also in part owing to the shortness of the crops in many parts of this Sub. Dist. thus disastrously effecting all classes alike, and tending to make "hard times".
