among themselves, acting as an arbitrator. As my duties are not accurately defined, I do everything connected with the interest of the Freedmen that comes under my notice

I believe that Congress has not made any provisions for the pay of its Civilian Agents Will you please inform me what is the prospect of its doing so

If I am to get no pay I shall be compelled to resign. I cannot devote my entire time to the duties of the office without compensation.

When I first made application for the office, I did not intend nor expect that my jurisdiction would extend beyond the election precinct in which I reside. I could easily attend to the business originating in it without discommoding me much. And for that I would not have asked, as I did not expect, any compensation whatever

Will you please inform me whether there is any prospect of Congress doing anything on the matter.
