Colonel.
I have the honor to submit my monthly report, as Assistant Superintendent for the Month of August. 1865.

I arrived here August 5th, and immediately entered on the duties of the Office. The Condition of the Freedmen, I found much better than I expected, owing to the judicious management of the Post Commander;
still a great many were living about the Town without visible means of support; generally occupying Outhouses and sheds, into which large numbers congregated.

I immediately devised means to get the able hands to work, and succeeded in clearing the Town of a large number of Vagrants, who got employment in the County.

Colony.
I have established no Colony as yet; but have been able to shelter the needy, and suffering without.

Temporary Assistance.
Temporary Assistance, only has been given by me to these people, and when rations, or parts of rations have been issued, they have been instructed to provide
