I have a Freedmens school in this place with an average attendance of Eighty Six (86) Schoolars during the past month.

I have been repeatedly informed of the appearance of a party of men disguised armed and sometimes mounted commiting outrages. A few days ago a party of three men thus described appeared in the vincinity of Steiners Store in Butler County Ala entered the dwelings of five different Freedmen and demanded money arms &c, the robers failed to find any money but they carried away all the arms they found in the possession of Freedmen.

On the night of the 3rd of October a similar party appeared near Ceder Creek, Butler County, Ala. demanded the money of a Freedmen, after which they shot the Freedman inflicting a slight wound in the head then robing him of his gun disappeared. As yet there has been no effort made to ascertain who these partys are much less to arrest them
