where employment has been taken from capable and worthy Freedmen, on account of attending Republican meetings, and one instance in which a Merchant refused to sell goods to a Freedmen alleging that as the only reason. One planter declares to his friends, that he intends after laying by the Crop to discharge, unpaid, every laborer who will not pledge his vote as he dictates. Reports from the country are rife that violence will be used to keep Freedmen from the polls. 
Decrease of Complaints
Complaints have been less frequent during the past two months than before, though there are some localities in which wonton injustice and barbarity seem chronic. The County and Circuit Judges, and solicitors have been impartial in the exercise of their functions and have endeared to dispense justice equality but no jury of the average material can be depended upon to subordinate prejudice to the claims of justice.
