the house of Burden's brother Ned and enquired after Burden. Ned could not tell where he was, whereupon the crowd beat Ned very severely cutting and bruising him about the head so that he could not get out for some days.

They also cut open his wife's head with a blow from a pistol. Augustus Green's dwelling house is about five miles form Farmersville, and very near the line of Wilcox, in the direction of Snow Hill in Wilcox County. Dr. Peck lives about a quarter of a mile from Farmersville

The state of affairs in this town is still unimproved. The administration of the Intendents Court is partial, as a rule, and very oppressive upon colored citizens. It is the practice whenever colored litigants are brought up, to fine both parties without regard to evidence, and exact costs from both.

Any offense of a colored person is speedily and valorously noticed and prosecuted. But yesterday, the Sheriff of this County broke the peace by assaulting a Republican gentleman without cause, and for more than an hour kept the lower part of the town in confusion, threatening and cursing the Republicans. Two policemen were about all the time but made no effort to arrest or hinder him.

Very Respectfully
