a number of plantations and arbitrate troubles between Employer and Laborer and I am happy to state that my labors have been Successful in every instance, There must necessarily be considerable destitution among the freed people the coming winter, owing to the short crop's and help must be sent them.

Schools have been entirely abandoned on account of the Scarcity of money - but it is hoped that the newly appointed Superintendent of Education Mr Simmons, will eradicate to some extent this defect. The System of abuse and intolerance seems to increase as the necessity for the freedmen's labor decreases and unless the freedmen agree to vote with them, in very many cases they are Kicked out of house and home. This I have to some extent Checked by bringing Suits for damages against the aggressors.
