I remit this day to Col. Edwin Beecher a similar statement, with Draft at thirty days on Bank of the Union at Nashville Tenn, for $687.00; and Draft on N.Y. for $652.43,balance, less Exchange. This was the best that could be done. The thirty days paper is irregular somewhat; but a better rate was realized than was offered by others. It will be promptly paid at maturity.

I decided improvements in practical and intelligent industry is visible in the Freedmen this year. They are rapidly learning certain wholesome maxims relative to their new status. 

Charity Corn
The corn sent (by steamer "Camelia") by Jones Charity Society was unloaded from the boat before the Good corn, and laid under the latter during the Extraordinary rise in the Tenn. River. It was totally submerged for nearly a week and was rotted, and ruined for any purpose whatever.
