and brought the most patients from the Colony and such as are likely to prove cases of prolonged sickness.
By the faithful services and under the able management of Dr. Schatz. this place promises to be a place of comfort and care to the sick and dying Freedmen whose neglected any suffering condition in sickness has pained my heart for months. - the neglect more shameful, the suffering more painful, by reason of the indifference of those who had the power to help them. 
At the Colony are treated by Dr. Beaudry all cases which do not require hospital treatment. The sick here remain in their quarters and are mostly cases of intermittant and remittant fever. A building large enough to accomodate thirty patients has been comfortably fitted up, supplied with cots & bedding for a lying in Hospital. As many of the women now on our hands are pregnant, this hospital is a great desideratum. 
Dr Beaudry has shown considerable energy in opening this hospital and I have reason to believe the sick are skillfully healed. 
As the sickly season advances it may be found necessary to enlarge our
