On Monday I took the train for Talledega. Here I was unable to secure an Officer immediately to fill the place now occupied by Chaplain Cilley. There were but few Officers at the Post, and I found it impossible to get a suitable man for the place until several had returned who are now absent from their commands, administering the oath of Amnesty. I had made arrangements for Captain Shunk's services in a few days, but as I have since heard that his Regiment is to be mustering out soon, I would recomend that William Chilton, an efficient young man who has been with me for four months in my Office, and is thoroughly acquainted with the business of the Bureau, be sent to Talladega as Agent for the place.
