I requested that the city build a hospital for the accommodation of both white and black, then I promised on the part of the Asst Commissioner to furnish hospital & medical supplies, rations & medical attendance, in part, at least. The Mayor assured me that he would urge the acceptance of my proposition by the common Council. He shall know the result in a short time.
