be furnished. I would most usefully state, under this article; that there are a great number of Freedmen and Refugees at present in this Sub District who if transportation could be furnished them, would greatly relieve the Government.

Soup Kitchens

During the month supplies of Soup and Bread were issued daily to Three hundred and fifty three (353) Persons - of these: Two hundred and sixteen (216) were White and One hundred and thirty seven (137) Colored - The total number who received this relief during the month to the 23rd Inst. amounted to Seven thousand and seventy eight (7078) Persons - Four thousand three hundred and twenty (4320) were white and Two thousand seven hundred and fifty eight (2758) Colored. At a cost  to the Government of Four hundred and forty five (445) Dollars. The issue, as the Soup Kitchen was suspended on the 23rd. The Post Quarter Master having stopped the issue of supplies - according to instructions from Hd Qrs Third Mil Dist
