Taxation. Complaints from all sections still come in against the present unequal system of taxation.  The poor whiteman and the freedmen agree that they have the burdens of taxation to bear, whilest the wealthy land lords go almost scot free

Freedmen's Schools. My opportunities for visiting
schools in this Dist. has been limited; but from the best information I have, the few that have been established are in a prosperous and flourishing condition, still there is a wide field for operations and the deceased great for the services of those unflinching men and women who are engaged in this praiseworthy undertaking

Feeling between the races. Outrages of the most atrocious character upon colored people seem to be fearfully on the increase

The officers of the law in all the counties in this sub. Dist expect the County of Chambers seem to endeavor to discharge their duties impartially. From the best information I can get it is utterly out of the question for a Freedman or a unions man to have an impartial hearing in that county.

It is the opinion of union men in Chambers that the holding of the coming election will be a mere farce in that county, unless there are troops present
