The general condition of the Freedmens Schools is very favorable. I am at this time unable to give the numbers of children being taught in the Sub. Dist., Reports not having been received from all the Schools.

Temperance Societies among old and young, have been organized in Selma as "The Lincoln Temperance Society" and the "Band of Hope" and are working much good, although new in organization, I am not informed as to these organizations elsewhere in the Sub Dist.

The growing distrust the Freedmen have of their former masters increased by the disinclination to give them the desired information or to assist them to Register by the Whites has in no little degree interfered with labor Two days are often taken to Register where 1/2 day would be ample time.
