cause, if it so happens that their labor is not needed, where so discharged, it is almost impossible to collect in the courts the amount due, especially if the amount shall be greater than will come within the jurisdiction of the Justice of the Peace. It is quite impossible to get a case of the kind through the Circuit Courts.
There are many vacancies of J of P.s and constables, in this Sub Dist. which if they could be properly filled, would assist much in removing the evil complained of.
The general condition of the Freedmen Schools is Very favorable.
The number of pupils enrolled in both day and night schools in the Sub Dist is 1559. In compliance with instructions from the Superintendent of Education, notice has been given to Teachers of Schools, that after the 31st of July, the schools must be made self=supporting if possible. that pay from the Bureau ceases. - many of the Teachers who were from the north have returned to their houses.
