and one $150, Second indictment; assault with intent to murder; upon motion of the prisoners council, the second indictement was set aside by the court, also the fine for the first offense was reduced, and placed within the reach of the prisoners, which has resulted in the release of five; the other four will obtain their release in a few days. They were ably defended by Mrrs. Bradford, Martin and Isabee, who are deserving much praise for the manner in which they defended the Freedmen, in opposition to excitement and prejudice. I have spent my efforts to learn the condition, and increase the number of schools in this Sub Distr; and I am pleased to be able to make an improvement in my school Report for this month. By authority of Special Order No. 33 I here sold at private sale eight hundred and fifty(850) sacks of corn, belonging to Bu R.F. and A.L. in a damaged condition. I have also issued to indigent Freedpeople in this Sub Dist. one hundred and twenty four(124) pairs of suits of clothing belonging to the [??]  Dept Bu R.F. and A.L. for which I am responsible.
