I would recommend, as Columbus is very accessible to this portion of Ala. and the centre of trade, that Genl Order No 12 be published in the Columbus Sun and Times. In this way, the Order would reach a large portion of Alabama. 
From Girard I proceeded to Union Springs, in the South Eastern corner of Macon County. During the turbulent times immediately after the surrender, it was found necessary to send a military agent to this place. Since the garrison has been withdrawn however, from Tuskegee, the county seat, there has been no agent at the Springs. There are many large planters in this section. It would be a great accommodation to them as well as a protection to the freedmen, to have a person authorized to approve contracts at this point.
