Monday (13 Nov./65) Ashford & Todd brought Holden to me saying he had a bale of cotton for sale. I learned that Mr. Garner held it as security for a debt due him from Holden amounting to 35$ Garner did not want the cotton. I was urged to buy and bought. There was 262# @ 40¢ $104.80. I paid the 35$ to Garner to get the bale out of his hands and paid Holden the balance $69.80 who paid Ashford 12$ leaving him a balance $57.80. It was then proposed that we play a game of cards, we did so. I, Holden, Ashford & Todd played about 30 minutes. Never saw Holden take a drink of whiskey. I was under the influence of liquor. Holden was not. I quit the game and advised Holden to stop telling that he would loose all him money and that he ought to take some home to his family, but he persisted in playing and lost all his money.

Nali charge Holden with his fine, Clays fine (for the money advanced on the cotton) and 5$ of Ashfords fine
