In compliance with Maj. gen. Swayne's order of today, I have the honor to report that in Feb. 1866, I loaned the owner small plantation in Macon County a small amount over one thousand dollars in cash, for which I am to receive one third of the crop gathered at the place this year, after I have paid one third of the expense of working it this year.

In March, 1866 I purchased a small plantation in Montgomery County with laborers, stock and provision on it and employed a white man as Superintendent whose whole time and attention is given to it this year.

This comprises the entire interest I have now or have had in planting in this State.

As evidence that I have not allowed these interests to interfere with the performance of any duty as an officer of the Bureau of Ref. F. and A.L., I desire you to recollect that while I have served as such one year and two months, I have
