Head Quarters Dist of Alabama
Montgomery June 15 1866

Com'g Dist. of Alabama:

At the date of the lease I was chaplain of the 47th Regiment U.S. Col'd Inft. serving on detached duty in Montgomery. Between the time of leasing and the mustering out of my reg't, I was assigned to duty as Superintendent of Education under the Bureau R.F. and A.L. which post I still occupy, and to the duties of which my whole time has been and is devoted.
The plantation is managed by a competent and experienced planter, with the assistance of my father and
