Personally appeared before me John Rudolph who being duly sworn testifies and says that some time in the month of May he purchased from Capt. Steinberg two barrels of Pork, and that he then said John Rudolph [[strikethrough]] paid for them fifty dollars [[/strikethrough]] gave his note for fifty dollars.

Also that in the month of June on or about the 10th inst he purchased from Capt Steinberg two barrels Pork for which he gave his note and three barrels damaged Corn Meal paying for the [[strikethrough]] Pork $25 per barrel and [[/strikethrough]] for the meal four dollars & fifty cents per barrel

Further that he procured the above stores from Capt. Steinberg upon the representation to him; of the fact, that on his place he had three or four aged women and thirty three small children, that were unable to work, and that he was unable to support them, and were it not for the purchase of meat and meal from the Subsistence Department he would be compelled to let them become a burthen upon the Government
