Hospitals and Colonies
The old, infirm and decrepid freedmen have been collected together at different points in the state into hospitals or colonie's as they are called. Such colonie's have been established as Montgomery, Selma, Demopolis Talladega, Huntsville and in the immediate vicinity of Mobile and Greenville

The premises occupied are rented by the Bureau, and are in charge of Medical Officers. At Montgomery a Super of the camp is also employed at $100 per month, I think this officer can be dispensed with, and his duties performed by the Surgeon in charge. Institutions of this kind necessitate a considerable expenditure for rents and attendants for instance at Mobile $120 per month is paid for the rent of the premises occupied two ambulance drivers are paid
