Dear Doris,

You are a very good conscientious girl to write to me as often as you do when you have so much to do and so many things to keep on your mind. I wish you were near enough so you could turn up biennially or oftener for a visit. We certainly enjoyed having you with us last summer That bath spray ws'nt for Sidney anymore than it was for you but I did intend to make you something and then there were so many business matters that came up that I did'nt have time to do much of anything extra. I had the material for a much needed dress for myself in the house for weeks before I had time to put the scissors into it & it isn't finished yet though I've just got it cut & fitted. You seem to be making your way along the road to fame if not to fortune. Don't be too strenuous about it. It's a great temptation to overdo when you love your work I'm glad you gave me some news about the Blakes. of course I will not say a word about what you've told me when I write
